Archie Roach

Archie Roach (born 1956, Mooroopna, Victoria) is an Australian musician. A singer, songwriter and guitarist, he survived a turbulent upbringing to develop into a powerful voice for Indigenous Australians, a storyteller in the tradition of his ancestors, and a nationally popular and respected artist. Archibald William Roach AC was a beloved Australian singer-songwriter and passionate Aboriginal activist. Known affectionately as "Uncle Archie", Roach was a respected Gunditjmara and Bundjalung elder who tirelessly advocated for the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Archie Roach was born on 8 January 1956 and died at 66 on July 30 2022. His death was caused by lung cancer and emphysema. more »
