Phyllis Sinclair

Distinguished by Maverick Magazine as a "A Lady of Conviction", Canadian, Folk singer songwriter, Phyllis Sinclair has earned national and international attention for her songs of truth and triumph. Canada's premium Folk, Roots and World Beat magazine, Penguin Eggs described her song North Coast Fisher Wife's Prayer as "positively impressive". Her second album, Fathomless Tales from Leviathan's Hole, earned her a Canadian Aboriginal Music Award nomination for Best Folk Acoustic Album. From this album her song, The Manicure , was selected by Musicians with a Cause to be included in their "More Life in the Years" CD compilation. Her song was selected out of over 350,000 entries world wide. In 2011 she released her third album "Dreams of the Washerwomen". This album was selected by Radio Canada International's Brazilian sector as a best new recording by a Canadian artist in 2011. It also earned her a Best Folk Acoustic Album Award by the 2011 CAMA Awards. Phyllis was nominated as Female Entertainer of the Year by the 2012 Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards for her extensive national and international tours! Born on the sub-arctic shores of Hudson's Bay, Phyllis Sinclair writes with make-you-think lyrics set to a classic folk vibe. Some songs definitely touch on tough subjects, but are written with deep sensitivity. The late Ron Hynes said of her songs after hearing her in St. John's "good work", and that about sums it up! A professional performer who gives from the heart.

Snow is falling at my feet, leaving tracks that follow me Down Main Street
Like the imprint in my mind, impressions left of bygone times
On Main Street

I see the old time places, familiar lines on faces
Some things have changed, but hard times still remain here
Like the wind that blows
Down Main Street

Wasn’t long ago it seems, I lived the mediocrity
Of Main Street
Rescue Missions, dingy bars, cheap hotels, all played a part On Main Street
Places for the lonely, all thinking they’re the only
Ones who’ve faced the hard times in the bitter air of the wind that blows
Down Main Street

What good is a memory, if not to tell tomorrow?
Which roads to lose, which roads to keep
What to change or borrow?

What's to say of crazy days wandering in the lost parade
Of Main Street?
We came to work and give our backs just to fall between the cracks
Of Main Street
Thousand year old heroes, who fell below to zero
With few to say now don't give up there are warmer days than this cold buffet
Of Main Street

What good is a memory, if not to tell tomorrow?
Which roads to lose, which roads to keep
What to change or borrow?

Here I stand now looking back,
I paved my own road, made new tracks
Off Main Street
Can’t say that I have regret I paid my dues,
I leave no debt to Main Street
Yet still I owe this boulevard,
Credit for the playing card
It dealt to win the losing game
In the bitter air of the wind that blows
Down Main Street

And as I turn my face to leave
A part of me will always be on Main Street
And when I lay me down to sleep,
I’ll pray the Lord your souls to keep
On Main Street
