Chevelle Franklyn

Born in Jamaica in 1974, Chevelle Franklyn Bega her music career at the age of 14. Her first single was released at the age of 17, titled, 'Here I am.' She became a national and international famed dancehall reggae artist after the release of two songs, 'Nice and Naughty' and 'Pushover.' Her increased fame saw her collaborating with various Jamaican dancehall reggae artists such as Lady G, Beenie Man and Shabaranks. Frankly rerouted her career music from a secular artist to a gospel singer in 1998 in Kingston, Jamaica, where she was expected to perform her hit song, 'Dancehall Queen." During the live performance, Franklyn told the audience she couldn't continue singing secular songs anymore - she's tired of the 'old' lifestyle. Before leaving the stage, she told the audience that she wanted to sing them a Kirk Franklin's song. Later, at her house, she committed her life to Jesus. Franklyn, a songwriter and producer has released several gospel albums such as Joy (2001), His Way (2006) and Shake It Off (2008).
