Jordi Baizan (ASCAP)

Jordi Baizan is a first generation American and native Texan songwriter. He has played hundreds of shows in the US, Canada, and Europe and released his sixth record in February of 2022. His songwriting, which American Songwriter (USA) has called “exquisite”, has garnered him recognition from several prestigious songwriting competitions including the Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Competition, the Songwriter Serenade Competition, and the South Florida Folk Festival’s Singer/Songwriter Competition. Signed in 2019 by Berkalin Records, label owner Brian J. Kalinec says "Jordi's songs convey authenticity perfectly intertwined with memorable melodies. His unique voice and his stories draw you in from the beginning, and you can't wait to hear the next page.” Jordi’s 2019 album, Free and Fine, inspired Lonestar Time (Italy) to welcome Jordi “into the great family of true troubadours”. His latest album, The Love in You (2022), reached both the Folk DJ (USA) and Euro-Americana (Europe) charts at its release in February.

Winter’s Come
© 2017-2018 Jordi Baizan (ASCAP)

The mornings are heavy with sleep, we cover our heads
But we can’t shake the cut of the cold, the gray, and the dread
Our nest on the ground is invaded by ice
Creation’s turned cruel. Everything dies

Winter’s come. We can’t stay
Try these wings. Better days

We take to the air and look back through the blur of our tears
But the rhythm of flight heals our hearts. We were born to be here
We cry out with joy as we soar towards the sun
The forest below, the mountains beyond

Winter’s come. We can’t stay
Try these wings. Better days

We could end up lost and wandering
Chasing echoes in empty canyons
Is our hope a dying ember
Or a light that never fades?

So fill up your lungs and imagine the blossoming spring
At the sight of our home we will laugh like a bubbling stream
Our bellies will fill up with berries so ripe
And tender caresses we’ll share in the night

Winter’s come. We can’t stay
Try these wings. Better days
