Actor, Singer, Songwriter. Born Sollie Paul Williams, in Ramsey, Illinois, he was among the most popular country entertainers of the 1940's. As a singer songwriter, he is best known for the hit "Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! That Cigarette" which held the number one sales position on the Billboard charts for six weeks in 1947. His other songs included "The California Polka", "Suspicion", That's What I Like About the West", "Who? Me?", "Talking Boogie" and "Life Gits Tee-Jus, Don't It?". For feature films, he appeared in "Tex Williams and His Western Caravan" (1947), "Tex Williams Orchestra in Western Whoopee" (1948) and "Tex Williams Western Varieties" (1951).
