"Bonita Applebum" is the second single from A Tribe Called Quest's debut album People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm. It is believed to be based on an actual young woman from the group's high school. Ali Shaheed Muhammad has said that the original version of the song was much more provocative. Once the group obtained a record deal, Q-Tip decided to tone down the chorus. The song contains samples of "Daylight" by RAMP, "Memory Band" by Rotary Connection, and "Fool Yourself" by Little Feat. more »
