This is a confusing song. Carman’s Lord of All (2008) begins “Lord, you are wonderful”. So sit back and sing as a prayer. Nope, it’s a hiccup song—Carmen was a bit clueless about what prayer is. Anyway, at least we know that the bits of prayer are to ‘the lord’. But, is that ‘lord’, as in Yahweh (Ps.97:5), or as in Yeshua (Ac.10:36; Rm10:12)? You might begin singing to Jesus; I might begin singing to his father. Indeed, ‘lord of all’, without further context, might also refer to either Yahweh or to Jesus. “Coz/‌That Jesus Christ is”, suggests to me that we are singing about Jesus, so, I presume, not to Jesus. So I could guess that by ‘lord’ we’re visualising the father, just bobbing in a bit to him about his son: “Jesus Christ is lord of all.” But then this last bit defines the ‘lord of all’ as being Jesus, and we’re singing to ‘the lord of all’. So at this point it thus looks to me that we’re supposed to be singing to Jesus, weirdly telling him about…another Jesus! “[Jesus] you are wonderful…Jesus Christ is lord of all” (come on Carmen, try “[Jesus] you are wonderful…you my lord, are lord of all”. If I said, “Carmen, you’re wonderful, and Carmen is a great guy”, might Carmen not wonder if I’m mentioning another Carmen? Carmen has failed to visualise this song, neither seeing it as prayer—“you are wonderful…lift up your eyes” (hiccup), nor even visualising Jesus as he sung it through.
