ANY OTHER SATURDAY

Just like any other Saturday I woke to the alarm
rolled so I could see your face, ran my fingers down your arm
peering out from our lonseome cage, watched the world come alive
and wondered if we'd see the end this time

You were humming while I fried the eggs, a tune I can't recall
something gave me a stomach ache, watching as a squirell
was stuffing all the birdseed he could fit into his face
and I thought maybe all of this has been a waste

Later in the afternoon, for a way to pass the time
we huddled in the basement room and tried to cast a line
to the world outside our windows hoping somebody would hear
but the wires crossed and my heart sank in fear

I wish I hadn't lost my cool, but the anger it took hold
my darker side destroyed the mood at once we were both alone
it was written all across your face like graffiti on a wall
nothing outside could make me feel so small

I fumbled through apologies wishing I could turn back time
to a better place in history when we could go outside
shake the hands of strangers as we post up at the bar
Will anyone remember who are

The count continues to climb
as the days crawl by
I get lost in the woods of my mind
