Rushing through the rain the people's faces lined with strain
As the bus doors close just as they're getting on
And the driver pulls away thinking only of the day
He'll stop driving round and round in circles

And people get up tight as they have to rush and fight
To beat the red man that says that they can't go
And the daily papers read the city air's just full of lead
And the workmen just keep digging up the road

Shall we remember from where life came and back to where it goes
Each life begins and ends the same insignificance nature sows

Winters closing in and the rain and snow begin
And in one fall the concrete grey turns pure and white
But the lorry's thunder on and the fallen blankets gone
And the chimney smokes on and on and on, and on and on

And day drifts into night without a plant or bird insight
But the coloured lights keep changing just the same
And I've standing in the crowd this chocking need to shout out loud
For this mess we've only got ourselves to blame

Shall we remember from where life came and back to where it goes

And though now I'm miles away I know they're all still hurrying the wrong way
