But I fell off my board
I got hit by three waves in succession
Now I'm spinning around
In this washing machine
All because of my newfound obsession

I'm gasping for air
Trying to find up from down
I've surrendered my will to the current
But I see the daylight
I'm not gonna drown
This wreck will not be a deterrent

I've been honing my skills on a longboard
I'm down on my knees

With no waves to be found
I've been wasting away like a wino
I'm writing the rays of the sun on my face
And lyrics to songs
Only I know

I'll be on the pier
Till my wound closes up
Feeding birds with some leftover breadcrumbs
It's just a matter of time
From subpar to sublime
And until the next set of waves
Comes

I'm learning to surf

Now I'm back on my feet once again
This scar's a reminder
I pray I'll be kinder
And I just can't wait to begin
