In the corner stands my old guitar
I can't play it too well but I try real hard
A little bit of practice goes little bitty far
My days are filled with work and family

There's my wife oh what a fine mess
When I'm without her I couldn't laugh less
Forever givin' me all of her best
Love so pure and simple needs no legalese

One time I lived in a one-hole shack
And if I never had to I'd never go back
But if I did I still wouldn't crack
I see now what the Lord had planned for me

I wouldn't trade my life for nothin'
I'll even take my strife's and strugglin's
Got blessings by the bushels and the dozens
I even want to keep my cousins

The children, the house, the kissin's and the huggin's
We're way down South just a livin' and a lovin'
It's all a man could ever want or need

There was a time when I was always lit
When the lights went out that's when I had to quit
If it's prison you want then it's chains you will get
Life ain't easy but it's better when your free

Woke up one morning with the middle age shakes
Thought I dreamed real thing but it turned out fake
Really had no reason to be cold or afraid
What haunts me is the part I can't retrieve

Some of the family well they're gone for good
If I could bring 'em back well you know that I would
But God's gonna do what only God should
And that's always gonna be alright by me
