Up in the attic, i reached in the cabinet 
And read the last five years of unfinished lyrics
Put to half-thought-out changes in complex arrangements
All vague and satiric, odd rhyme schemes and meters

I'm wincing at poor form and indistinct metaphors
"Like stale bits of petit four," or "like amateur pedicures"
Or "we measure our leisure like so many seizures"
Or "the night fell like curtains, furtive and certain"

The pipe underneath of the sink started dripping
I put down a bowl and it filled every hour
She visits at seven and gives me the business
