Ill-Advised

Ill-Advised: Presidential Health and Public Trust is a 1992 book by historian Robert Hugh Ferrell examining politically motivated cover-ups of serious medical issues afflicting U.S. presidents while they were in office. Although Dwight Eisenhower is the main focus of the book, it covers the presidency for a century, from Grover Cleveland's mouth cancer in 1893 to the health of George H.W. Bush, then-current president when the book was first published. All of these instances, Ferrell argues, raised serious questions about the fitness of each president to hold office, as well as whether the presidents and their physicians violated the public trust in keeping the incidents secret. more »

Hard times they come in waves
Like shadows through the windowpane
Promises broken along the way
Hindsight is twenty-twenty
Fat autocrats say it's okay
But I don't wanna miss a thing
Bylines in black and white
Cross out your eyes in a photograph
But I cannot forget her laugh
On time
Set my clocks again
Before I knew it eight years had passed
I'm still a kid and you're too fast
I don't wanna fall again
Under a false pretense
I did confess
I don't wanna drown again
Like a flashing beacon
I'm under duress
Lace up your holy rollers
This time we'll make it home again
Busted cars and latchkey soldier kids
Won't stay silent
Your time is up so run
You pushed us around
Facedown in the ground
But we got back on up somehow
Hard times are almost over
But tonight, I hope it never ends
I hope it never ends
Good times are but a dream
I've fallen through the looking glass
With one foot stuck in the past
Hot girls are a dime a dozen
Her moods strike like a thunderclap
A billion volts to the chest
I don't wanna cry again
Under a false pretense
I did confess
I don't wanna crash again
Like a flashing beacon
I'm under duress
Lace up your holy rollers
This time we'll make it home again
Busted cars and latchkey soldier kids
Won't stay silent
Your time is up so run
You pushed us around
Facedown in the ground
But we got back on up somehow
Hard times are almost over
But tonight, I hope it never ends
I hope it never ends
She's got me wrapped around her throat
In a engraved locket made of gold
Her ripped jeans match my combat boots
We're two punk rock kids against the world
So what are ya gonna do?
Lace up your holy rollers
This time we'll make it home again
Busted cars and latchkey soldier kids
Won't stay silent
Your time is up so run
You pushed us around
Facedown in the ground
But we got back on up somehow
Hard times are almost over
But tonight, I hope it never ends
I hope it never ends
Hard times are but a dream
But I hope it never ends
