Even if you benefit from certain parts of a system, it's still important to criticize it (To the level heights!) Yeah, let it ride, let it ride Uh, let it ride Should I put the tag in? Imma put the tag in (DJ Tidesoft!) Ayo It's borderline insane how I been on ten again For three years straight, it's been great I can't tell when to end It's like an etched-in trait in me to kill y'all with a pen And yet I feel like you intend to rag on me again It's hard to pinpoint the difference between me and them Besides that big point that they're nowhere near to a gem I'm like obsidian made at high heat and cooled down for you to handle them My igneous skin is here again I might blow up on y'all this time 50 say many men Wish death pon him, I ain't no killer but I'm feeling him Whether I'm in the gym or singing hymns I can feel the phlegm All these Karens in training clearing their throats again Borderline condemning me for coming to their place again When it's their dough that brought me in their space and when I do all I can and say I need a break that's when I hear "You can't break obsidian it's rare, you're sailing (To the level heights!) Yeah, lawd lawd knows Wake cares so much about what the outside world is gonna, like, say or think And therefore I think they put like (yeah) An absurd amount of pressure on us as students to like (hah!) Achieve so much, to do so much, to be Here, there, and everywhere because like that's what Wake is I said igneous, not metamorphic I don't endorse this I've done that but I abhorred it Why I gotta be the one to code switch Cuz I've done it don't mean I enjoy it It's like putting my Blackness on layaway More like a mortgage Cuz like I got it But I don't own it Till thirty years down the line And then I forgot how to hold it Feels like this was according to plan We're only two generations from the Ku Klux Klan in my neighborhoods (Out in public) caveat needed cuz they'll steal my joy just like a raider would Cater to the greater good Hate me like a hater would So to survive I'll deny my mind state to be understood I'll act as white as Carrie Underwood When I'm a Mickey Guyton There's only so much my skin can brighten I'll be intelligent so my respect is heightened I wanna shine like a diamond But for the Blackness, there ain't no hidin' I think there this, like, stigma that, like Students here need to be working all the time And when they're not working then they need to be partying or they need to be doing something social Or when they're not doing something social Out in the world doing doing community service or They need be volunteering or in this club And so Wake creates this like, atmosphere That you have to be somewhere being something for someone else When in reality sometimes we just need to be something to ourselves
