It's times like these I remember what it's

Thought I was happier but maybe it's because
I feel safer where I'm hiding

Page by page I climb into an empty chapter of this book
Dip in the ink and draw a picture over the faded plans from before

If I write better poetry when I'm so sleepy
I spill blankets of words I can't read on my notes
And I wake up blue and sorry that I
Couldn't get the story straight

If I cry better tears when I am so happy
They spread thin what's left of you in my
Memory
And I lay down and drift away into a dream
And I see your face anyways

Between the lines I walk, cross the spaces
I crawl to the edge and look down
I wonder what it's like to fall

Something holds me down but when I turn around there's nothing there at all
And when I look back the wind picks up
And I hit the ground

It hurt like hell
But it takes being broken to see why I've done what I've done
The sun still shines but
the sky above me cries

Pieces of me strewn across the floor
What's more now I put them back in a different order
Oh the worst must be over now

Just ahead a cleaner slate and
No more barricades
No more lanes
No more waiting games
No more time to waste
Just open road

I write my own fate, and
I walk my own pace
On thicker ice I skate
My path is not straight and
I am not alone if I've got me
