The Homecoming

The Homecoming is a two-act play written in 1964 by Harold Pinter and first published in 1965. Its premières in London (1965) and New York (1967) were both directed by Sir Peter Hall. The original Broadway production won the 1967 Tony Award for Best Play. Its 40th-anniversary Broadway production at the Cort Theatre was nominated for a 2008 Tony Award for "Best Revival of a Play". Set in North London, the play has six characters. Five of these are men who are related to each other: Max, a retired butcher; his brother Sam, a chauffeur; and Max's three sons: Teddy, a philosophy professor in the United States; Lenny, a pimp who only makes discreet references to his "occupation" and his clientele and flats in the city (London); and Joey, a brute training to become… more »

I'm so far gone
I feel I'll fade away
I'm so far gone
Wouldn't I love to see the world
Looking back with dry eyes
And replace that time
With silver-lined clouds
Bury down my sense of pride
Ashamed of all the things I can't hide
I've donned this mask a thousand times
Choked back by
All the breath I held for too long
And let go too late
I'll try not to clench my teeth
When I'm clenching my nerves
I'll grin and bear it until it's overbearing
When will I ever find a way
To manage insecurity
Remember when the lights go off
It's inhale, exhale
Is there more for me
Than feeling like a nuisance
A burden
For all my friends to bear
Wouldn't I love to see it all
Vanish in the autumn
Well, I'll try my damnedest
Choked back by
All the breath I held for too long
And let go too late
I'll try not to clench my teeth
When I'm clenching my nerves
I'll grin and bear it until it's overbearing
When will I ever find a way
To manage insecurity
Remember when the lights go off
It's inhale, exhale
I'm so far gone
I feel I'll fade away
I'm so far gone
All the breath I held for too long
And let go too late
I feel I'll fade away
Remember when the lights go off
It's inhale, exhale
Remember when shit gets rough
It's inhale, exhale
