Steve and Lilly Van Patten had three children
And in a matter of months, they'd already killed them
By keeping them tied up and keeping them hidden
Locked up in a room, their home was a prison
They never left once or even saw the kitchen
They were found by the cops in the worst of conditions
Tied to a post in the fetal position
Pale skin and bones from malnutrition
In a broken down trailer where their parents were missin'

And no one was ever born bad in nature
And we were all conceived from above
But it's a cruel, cruel world into which we're hurled
And everybody only wants love

Steve and Lilly Van Patten met in Manhattan
They got pregnant with triplets they thought that they wanted
But they changed their minds by the time they got 'em
And the three little babies were soon all forgotten
Lilly was fond of her pills and Steve loved his bottle
And the babies were just in the way of their freedom
So they locked them away so they didn't have to see them
And you wonder just why, and what is the reason
For the kids needed them, but they didn't need the children

And some families go through life as strangers
And it's hard to be alone on this earth
But some children are left to be killed to their death
By the very ones who gave them birth

And what will become of the three little children?
Will they ever be graced with a father or mother?
Will they ever be able to ever recover?
Did they do something wrong that they deserved to suffer?
That the Van Pattens left them all of a sudden
And the kids only wanted somebody to love them
And although it is written that they will be forgiven
I just can't help but wonderin' what I'm missin'
Why do good people die when bad ones keep livin'?

And the children die at the hands of their parents
And not a tear do the Van Pattens mourn
And in that very same house, by the very same parents
Another three children are born
