As urban and rural communities are becoming more distinct Along demographic lines They are also becoming more polarized politically They have widely different views when it comes to social and political issues Whether it be views on immigration Same-sex marriage, religion, government or businesses There are wide gaps between urban and rural communities As I grow older and wise I choose to lean on one side There is increasing evidence to prove our social divide And we collide Be careful should somebody misguide you It's up to you to judge and make sense of what this world provides you Some say it's holding us back, some say it's truly empowering We just can't seem to see eye to eye on almost anything One day we might reconcile the things that we spew Yes we have opposite views, but I can empathize too If we just take a step back and approach it without hostility Accept each other's points and arguments with humility Come to an understanding for a minute or two That's when the line disappears, so cross the border come through I'm from the urban life typically be opposite of you You're from the rural life usually be opposite of blue I think the urban rural divide is rooted in geography How you affiliate is determined by your proximity to the city Everybody pick a side I know where I stand on the line Hello from the urbanite This is our great divide Everybody pick a side I know where I stand on the line Hello from the urbanite This is our great divide Environment shaping our social views, and our political views It is fine to refute but I believe it is true Urban dwellers tend to be more forward thinking and progressive But we're disconnected from relationships too You rural dwellers are more intimate with strong social ties Every neighbour and local you know they say hi's and goodbyes But everything is just personal, nothing is reversible If there is an outcast, it's rarely permissible Surely you've been feeling social pressure to conform Here in the city it's different cause being different's the norm You do stay true to yourself, stick to traditional views Us urban dwellers are too open make our morals feel loose Open to liberal ideas, these unconventional views The urban landscape for the outrageous eccentric imbued We choose to live where best aligned with our values and beliefs We choose to live where best aligned with what we strive to achieve Everybody pick a side I know where I stand on the line Hello from the urbanite This is our great divide Everybody pick a side I know where I stand on the line Hello from the urbanite This is our great divide I love the spontaneous nature of life in this jungle Millennials downtown be swiping on Tinder, Hinge or Bumble Lot of colorful characters young and free going through motions Without no pressure no structure living life without direction So many young, many progressive They're educated more cultivated with broader knowledge of the world They're well travelled also tolerant and friendly I just fit in, I feel like I belong in this place I just fit in, with all these other like-minded people Stand up for inclusivity because everybody equal I don't mean no hostility to rural dwellers or rightys But you are backwards, I'm not a good fit is putting it lightly Everybody pick a side I know where I stand on the line Hello from the urbanite This is our great divide
