When I am lying on the ground
And all the animals have come to see what’s going on
I see the sky of white and blue
But the sun is overpowering my view
It doesn’t matter much
I cannot close my eyes I’ve lost my crutch
It’s just a matter of time before I die

Bodies are lying all around
How death has a sickly silent sound
The green green grass it looks so cold
When in patches and filled with deep red holes
The distant clatter keeps pulsing o’er the fields
But the ringing in my head won’t yield
Until there is no mind with which to hear it

But the memories of days gone by
Will quiet the shrieking pain
Driving down the country road
Just to see her another day
My head on her lap her hand in my hair
The weather seems always fair
When your heart is in love
And you don’t have a single care
Oh and I don’t really care

I cannot believe how my mind is racing
Considering this mortal fate I am facing
Although my story is over the book is not written
I can’t complete it in the time I’ve been given
I hear a faint crackling sound
My God it’s the rain falling on the ground 
The weather today seems excellently fair

I’ll soon have the time with eternity nearing
To finish the book of my life I’m preparing
I feel it coming on I feel it growing strong
The freedom that I’ve wanted for so long
The rain has stopped or so it seems
Reality is gone I’m living in dreams
I’m leaving you now but I hope that you’re not feeling envious

But the memories of days gone by
Will bring me back once again
The freedom that I felt
While I was a living man
I’ll cling to that moment
And bring it with me
Keep it for all eternity
Because you know the weather up there
Is always fair
