I’m going through my life, throwing out pieces of my past 
I won’t forget it all, but there’s memories I don’t want to last
I tried to live without pain and fear 
But I’m haunted by what happened last year 
So I’m trying hard to throw out pieces of my past

The cards that year dealt me I’m trying to understand
What did I do to deserve this kind of hand
It started out bad then it went downhill
Don’t know if I have what it takes to pay this bill
So I’m doing what I can to throw out pieces of my past

I’m doing what I can to try to leave last year behind
I need to find a way to get those bad things off my mind
Just when I find joy in something new I’ve found
Yesterday comes back and knocks me down
So I’m working hard to throw out pieces of my past

I’ll keep the good things, there was so much good for me to have 
And that can keep me going, make me smile or make me laugh 
But the bad things that kept coming my way, 
those are the things I don’t want to stay 
So I’m throwing out some pieces of my past
