I remember letters The stripped-down necessity of communication E-mails were priceless gems among a sea of paper and ink Now, I discard oceans of e-mails every day And wish someone would write me I took carefully positioned photos with a camera Of little things like puddle reflections and birds Pictures were for art and being framed for Mom Now, I scroll through everyone's face I wish I had And vacations that I wish I could afford Everyone can publish music Everyone can film a movie Everyone can...try to draw Nobody can be seen And even if you can You can't feel it (Ooh) All the world's a stage, so perform your little circus You're special and unique, I promise, just ask your mom Wear your pretty clown mask Anybody can be anything You can say whatever you need If you have someone to say it to I wrote in my notebook Stories and ideas and random thoughts To record the things that filled my brain For myself for later on Now, I take down posts if I don't get enough likes I only cared about my looks For services at church two times a week And even then it really was my mom who cared Now, I can't go outside of my room, unless My hair is fixed Face washed, teeth shining like the moon Clothes clean and soft With a smile that can change the mood 'Cause I know I'll be seen And it matters what they see All the world's a stage, watch as I perform my service I'm special and unique, I promise, just ask my mom What's under this superficial mask Inside I could be anything I need somebody to talk to I can't hear anything, I need somebody to talk (I need somebody... Ooh) Say something that matters Say whatever you want Everyone's shouting over each other One at a time, please I can't understand all the yelling I need somebody to talk How can you be found when everyone is trying to be One at a time, get in line, I swear you'll get your turn Unless you don't, who truly knows, I'm sorry But sometimes all that you can do is talk Tell everyone what's wrong And all that's going on Share every inward thought Let the teachers be taught Nothing's more important Than what you want right now So, say everything about everything And say it all right now Don't stop talking 'til you're done And don't give up 'til you give Every little part of yourself to us, we want it all Don't think for a second that nobody cares 'Cause everybody does And that's why everybody shares Your opinions are priceless And you should shout them all What's your thought on grapefruit prices Or the shooting at the mall Tell us, how was that new movie How's your grandma who has cancer Don't you wish that you could die Don't do that, become a dancer Change your name and your identity No one wants you for you I'm ashamed you'd ever think that Have you seen who you're compared to You could never measure up to these Mythological beings Because that's all that they are They're not people, they're personalities Social media icons made from millisecond photos A feed of pictures doesn't tell the story of a life That girl just posted smiley faces on her father's boat Just seconds after crying and before taking her life She's gone, we lost her Don't lose yourself, too Drop the façade, let your persona go Keep what's private, we don't need to know We can't pay you the cost of selling yourself Wealth is not as rich as mental health Take care of yourself The real one I'll always be here If you need somebody to talk
