Johnny Clegg & Savuka

Savuka, occasionally referred to as Johnny Clegg & Savuka, was a multi-racial South African band formed in 1986 by Johnny Clegg after the disbanding of Juluka. Savuka's music blended traditional Zulu musical influences with Celtic music and rock music that had a cross-racial appeal in South Africa. Their lyrics were often bilingual in English and Zulu and they wrote several politically charged songs, particularly related to apartheid. Some better-known Savuka songs include "Asimbonanga", and "Third World Child", from their 1987 album Third World Child. Band percussionist Dudu Zulu was killed in 1992; their song "The Crossing" was a tribute to him. more »

Sweat in the heat for days on end
Waiting for you to come again
To hear the words spill from your lips
The system has fallen

Mass action on the radio
Like a great river ebbs and flows
Carrying us to the final close
When the system has fallen

I know that you are tired and you are weary
Seen too much to believe any more
But we have to keep moving down that long road
If we want to reach that far shore

We're on our way home to find this freedom
And I'm on my way home to find you my friend
Where we can stand in the light of the people
And breathe life into the land again.
Siyathemba, siyathemba kuwena nkosi
Sizo fika ema khaya
Siyathemba, siyathemba kuwena nkosi
Sizo fika ema khaya

Hey you, if you dance in the shadows
The shadows will cover you
And paralyze all the hope in your eyes
That you'll need to bring you shining through
Could you believe I am your brother
Could you believe that I could be your friend
And although I don't know the language that you speak
We could be closer than you have ever dreamt

We're on our way home to find this freedom
And I'm on my way home to find you my friend
Where we can stand in the light of the people
And breathe life into the land again
Siyathemba, siyathemba kuwena nkosi
Sizo fika ema khaya
Siyathemba, siyathemba kuwena nkosi
Sizo fika ema khaya

Ngizobeka phansi uku zondana kwami
Ngizobeka phansi uku
Ngizobeka phansi izenzo zegazi
Ngizoxolelana nezitha zami wemadoda
Sizo fika ema khaya
Sizo fika ema khaya

Siyathemba, siyathemba kuwena nkosi
Sizo fika ema khaya
Siyathemba, siyathemba kuwena nkosi
Sizo fika ema khaya
Siyathemba, siyathemba kuwena nkosi
Sizo fika ema khaya
Siyathemba, siyathemba kuwena nkosi
Sizo fika ema khaya
Siyathemba, siyathemba kuwena nkosi
Sizo fika ema khaya
Siyathemba, siyathemba kuwena nkosi
Sizo fika ema khaya
Siyathemba, siyathemba kuwena nkosi
Sizo fika ema khaya
Siyathemba, siyathemba kuwena nkosi
Sizo fika ema khaya
