Graduate Blues
Life seemed so big, a vast open road
It's intimidating, you don't know where to go
But as a kid you get handed a map
They say "complete these steps, you're good to go"

Go to high school, go to college
Go to grad school and fill your head up with knowledge
Work 1 job, two when you need it
And one day you'll turn 25, with 2 degrees, If you don't die
You'll have the ingredients for a perfect life

Had to admit, that seemed strange to me
"Why would anyone care if I've done these things"
Still, I was a kid that got handed a map
I committed these steps to my being

I went to high school, I went to college
I went to grad school and filled my head up with knowledge
Worked 1 job, three when I needed
And one year I turned 29 with two degrees and still alive
But no new jobs and a solid line
OF debt that will haunt me until the day that I die

What were these last years for?
I did everything I could to try and get my foot in the door
But I feel farther from these goals than when I started out on this course
I plotted out all those years ago
And this has all been hell
I've made some good friends but I haven't made much else
And if the world's made up it's mind I don't see why I'd waste my time
Trying to fit into a lie I don't wanna tell

So go do what you want; make sure you don't hurt anyone
And f*ck those semi-pro cartographers who'd tell you where to go

Life seems so big, a vast open road? Well good
