I've been heading down that western path
Since I left my home the month before last
I packed my things and didn't turn back around
Pacific bound from an eastern town

When I left my home for the open road
The leaves were green and the winds were slow
Now it's getting cold and the winds come fast
Throwing me backwards, shooting stones and glass

But I'm going to make it out to California

The mud turns to dust beneath my shoes
In the cornfields under a Nebraskan Blue
When I reach Denver, I'll be a mile high
From the smoke in Boulder, I'll be feeling bone dry

But I'm a stone rollin', picking up speed
Trying to make the coast before I freeze
These winter months really got a hold on me
But when I see the sea that's when I'll know I'm free
