Small renardelle, she's so afraid
Thunder crashes in the valley, her family's far away
Sweet renardelle retreats and shakes
To watch the world go by from deep inside a den she smartly made
Field notes required, I hold my pencil tight
And write these words along the crisp blue lines
Soft renardelle beneath the tree
The only sounds she could be hearing now are the sounds that come from me
Kind renardelle, could she believe
I'm not a hungry predator, not like any kind she's seen
These field notes of mine take patience, nerve, and time
To track her down along these crisp blue lines
Sharp renardelle by morning light
She must be quite forgetful, seemed so familiar in the night
Cold renardelle with eyes so wide
Most dangerous when startled, inclined to sudden flight
Field notes revised, subject lost from sight,
Just pencil traces on these crisp blue lines
