Fond Farewell

From a Basement on the Hill is the sixth and final studio album by the American singer-songwriter Elliott Smith. Recorded from 2000 to 2003, and faced with multiple delays due to Smith's personal problems that resulted in his death, it was released posthumously in the UK and Europe on Domino on October 18, 2004, and in the US the following day on October 19, 2004, through record label Anti-, almost a year after his death. The album was initially planned as a double album, and was incomplete at the time of Smith's death. Many of the songs Smith intended for the album remained unfinished, in some cases lacking only vocals. Put my headphones on so I don't have to hear the pain
It's been ringing in my ears
And I really love to complain

Running into all the walls with a blindfold on
You see
Makes it really hard to take responsibility

Where will you go when you're falling for me into my mud?
Maybe we would grow if you would allow me
But everything single day it's the same things
And nothing's as it seems

Don't be afraid to swing the bat kid
Isn't that what you said?
Whiff on all the pitches now
So you can feel blessed
That the cycle never ends
When it's all under your control
Maybe in a year we'll see
How much we still don't know

Where will you go when you're falling for me into my mud?
Maybe we would grow if you would allow me
But everything single day it's the same things
And nothing's as it seems

Cross the dream
You and me
Hold my hands as you watch me drown
Out at sea
Far away from all my needs
The despair, it's in the air
Take off all your clothes and show me that you care
Life's great when you're like you

And with each day that goes by I will try to
Leave you one step further far behind
You can have anything that you would like
But you can't deny
That you're not enough for me

You can't deny
That you're not enough for me

Where will you go when you're falling for me into my mud?
Maybe we would grow if you would allow me
But everything single day it's the same things
And nothing's as it seems
