I was raised in the hard times
Friends of mine doing hard time
San Ramon on the fault lines
Love of God made it alright
Even still it was a hard fight
Father said we had to pray to get the things we wanted
That became a way of life
I was just a kid, learning how to live, learning what to put my faith in
Watching Daddy try, watching Mama cry, steady running out of patience
I remember fighting for the house and my mama tryna make the payments
I was never fed by a silver spoon boy we barely even had stainless
It was a fight every day it was a struggle
Tryna pay the bills, tryna make it as a couple
Tryna keep it as a family, tryna keep it all subtle
Tryna keep myself pure, tryna keep myself humble
I remember nights where I cried myself to sleep
Only 14 when I first had the dream
Could have been on my own, coulda been on the streets
But the Lord got me through he supplied all my needs
And I'm not gonna say that it's perfect, it's not
Cuz I'm still human sometimes I forgot
That on my own there's nothing I got
My worth is in purposed service to God
And I still stumble sometimes I fall
But He picks me up and answers my call
So I gave my life to live for the cause
And if you don't know why I did it at all

I wasn’t perfect but thanks to His mercy
I’m living my life free of shame and regret
Following the pattern of Christ what I have in my life
