And I was 26 in Tennessee, with a sweet-eyed girl staring back at me

Made our way to Texas for a while
Sitting around a fire, we drank a little wine
Then just nine months later, I met my Mary Lou
Just another kid under the stars

We hitchhiked up to Utah and made ourselves a home
Wake up in the back of Zion's Garden
But my loves, I cannot stay here, I feel the itch to roam
I can't look back, my life's the open road

Now I'm getting older and I'm alone
And I still think of Mary Lou and how she might have grown
She looks just like her mother in my mind's eye
I guess that I'm still young enough to cry
