Growing up I had a friend, his name was Charlie Brown
Wore a yellow black shirt and on his face he wore a frown
He used to say, good grief, was the only grief at all
As he walked, alone, through the packed grade school halls
His pa was outta the picture and his ma was hardly in the frame
In Pine Tree Corners trailer park the painting hangs to this day
I only visited once, I wish I did a thousand times
How was I to know i'd end up standing in a funeral reception line
Up in Hennepin County he wrote stories on paper and pen
But the pages were dusty, if only they had been read
Well maybe he'd be standing here, with a thousand million friends
Charlie Brown now your really gone, when we all kinda thought you just went
Charlie's dog, Snoop, was rescued from a far away farm
Snoop was more than sure to die when he came into Charlie's arms
And Snoop dog got the treatment, that Charlie Brown needed
But it made the boy feel good, saving the dog from harm
In a cold Minnesota winter of a year that doesn't matter in time
On paper and pen, Charlie Brown spent his last dime
My pockets were full of quarters, I think i'd have given him one if he asked
But then again it'd been a couple of years since he and I talked last
