We all just want to know
Someone cares
That someone's there
That we're not alone

We all need to hear
That we're not useless or worthless
That we're not a mess
That people enjoy us being near

Often times we get trapped in our own minds
The voices lying to us
Telling us that we're not enough
And we believe it as proof like something we see with our own eyes

We begin habits we can't always support and don't need
Another cigarette to destroy our lungs
Another pill to lay on our tongues
Anything so we don't feel so weak

Constantly feeding the demons to keep them at bay
Hoping for some sort of relief
Some sort of peace
Even for just a day

But when you've lived with the demons for most of your life
When they've held your hand
You begin to believe the delusion  into thinking they're the only ones who understand
And you push away the real people in your life

Feeling they'll think you're not who they want
Building walls and shutting doors
Just so you can make sure you're not hurt anymore
Yet still feeling like such a fraud

Because you live with a mask on every day
No matter the occasion or people you're around
No matter how sad, never showing a tear or frown
Pretending that you're okay

It's a death sentence of our souls and minds
These demons having groomed us since day one
Waiting to toss us away when they're done
Yet this is how we struggle on through life

If you could live in our shoes 
Would you do like we do and try to survive
Would you do like we do and try to fight
Or would you last thirty minutes then scream it's enough?

I wish you could read our minds
And see the damage these demons can do
See the hell we live through
And then you can decide

Are we weak when we can no longer fight
Are we a disgrace when we give up and lay down for eternal rest
Do we ever truly pass this test
I don't have the answers, I still haven't decided fight or flight...
