Dear white Christians As you lay your head in bed You can hear the sounds go off in the distance Sounds that sound similar to the way they did 300 years ago Loud explosions The sounds of guns and cannons that would impale people And leave large amounts of lead in their leg And you'd raise your eyes just to see the old American flag Torn and tattered But now 300 years later were lying on the lawn getting old and fatter And we look up to see colorful lights scatter You see those lights in the sky How beautiful the light is amidst the backdrop of night Don't you see how the colors work in this cohesive effort To produce a beautiful display Yet still it's the white that stands out With the black in the backdrop So it's safe to say this nation is full of beauty and of pain Yet we tend to call it the land of the free and home of the brave Then fail to mention that it was built on the backs of black slaves Now I understand we ain't perfect I just wish we would confess it but naw As Americans idolize success So why would we face that facade Meanwhile the media paints wars between black and blue Black and blue The color of our countries true skin tone Now I’m not tryna bash America I’m just saying it as it is And I love America But can you truly love someone for who they are Flaws and all If your not willing to admit all they are For example People try to see my color without my culture And I appreciate people who say I don't see color But then in my head I'm saying then you don't see me Regardless if your TV came in HD This world comes with black and white So please see me Don’t just accept me because I fit your mold And live the life of a typical white Yea I may be a young educated black male And break statistical barriers But accept me for my background Accept me for my culture Accept me for my language So even when I don’t sound white or educated As if those two words are even synonymous I can know that you don't just expect me to be homogenous Which come on Whoever said that was the aim There's a difference between being uniform and being united That's what we were meant to be The United States of America Now MLK once had a vision of the True American dream but in 2018 That dream is still not seen So let's ask 3 questions Why Who And what Cause you can't go from A to Z without first addressing Y And there’s many reasons we can list We can talk about politics Or the statistics Or the historical context Or even the science And we can blame the system or we can blame the media But reality is this topic is so much more than you'll find on Wikipedia And I think part of the problem Fear Cause we all have fears Whether it's the fear of the unknown Or whats different Or maybe it's the fear of confronting this issue But if we let fear control our actions or we’ll stay divided like fractions So question question Are you fearing God or man And what kind of man do you fear Is it the kind who has his pants a Lil low Walks a Lil slow and has a skin tone different than your own Or is it the cop who pulled you over even tho when the light turned red you came to a complete stop What is it that you fear Being shot Being arrested Or being wrong See a lot of times if your willing to find your fears you’ll find the rules to which you adhere But fear is just a small part of a bigger problem And there are so many other roots That feed this tree So you ask what is the seed from which it sprouted And the church will tell you its sin which in this problem is grounded So yea I believe the diagnosis is sin With racism as its symptom and Jesus as the solution But can we please stop using that tag line to avoid all the pollution Cause the next question is who So church I don’t look to the world I look to you See some people are bold enough to speak But can we practice what we preach Cause if we did I know it would change our streets And this Christianity isn't a white religion Yet can we tell by the way your livin' And honestly I don't understand I don't understand how we can be passionate about Confronting gays or fighting for sex slaves But when it comes to race No one is willing to go the start line Yet everyone's talking bout finish line And how can you say this is not a gospel issue This topic needs to be drenched in grace And I’m not talking about a warm and fuzzy concept No I'm talking about a God who was drenched in blood I’m talking about a God who was willing to take our lashes So yea my people were whipped but so was He And we may have been hung on trees but so was He And He did so So that you and I could become we And stand before the king But this cost wasn't free Yet I believe that the Father was singing let freedom ring Let freedom ring And His vision for freedom Was so much larger than 50 states So if He overcame sin and overcame death Why can’t we overcome racism Cause that same power is living inside us Plus I am proof of what Jesus Christ can do cause my parents had the right eyes to look through So now that we’ve asked why and who The last question church is what are we gonna do Because if we truly believe the answer is the gospel Then it begins with Confession So I’ll start it off I confess we ain't perfect I confess we lash out sometimes in the wrong way And I definitely confess that bitterness won't build bridges But I also confess that we are hurt and we are angry So can you try to understand our perspective Can you confess that you’ve been blind Can you confess this isn't something I'm making up in my mind Can you confess that things haven't changed all that much Especially if your a white Christian can you confess on behalf of your people Because just cause you may not be racist Just cause you may treat my people well Doesn't mean your people treat my people swell So if you got Jesus you got the solution and I need you to be apart of restitution And I know America is all about the individual But we gotta see ourself as indivisible Otherwise our actions exist in isolation And that guy beating the girl in the back alley has nothing to do with you So yea you may have not been the attacker But your still responsible for the blood splatter Cause to stand on the sideline and wave the flag of ignorance Is still the sin of ignoring this So please step onto the field and help us to heal Cause when you confess pardon and repent You get CPR And bring life to what once was dead So I believe we can revive this nation with a God who wears a crown of life on His head And man I cant wait for revelation to come That we may all stand before the Son worshiping as one Black white an yellow all thee as one Looking like the Trinity Father Spirit Son And you best believe this Triune God is all bout unity That why at His core of His character is perfect community He didn't ask us to be uniform He asked us to be united So can someone please catch this fire in my heart that's ignited? Cause I know church majority of Americans may not be black But their hearts are just as dark Yet we're suppose to be the ones with the spark To set this world ablaze that we may join together as one And give One God praise One nation Under God Indivisible With liberty and justice for all
