Forced to the ground with a knee to his neck
Cuffed behind his back face smashed against the road
Another horror flick but we’ve seen this episode
As he’s laying on ground, gasping for that last breath
Trying to avoid a slow but almost certain death
Black women if you ever doubted ya power
A grown man calling for his momma in his darkest hour
Speaks volumes, but they can’t seem hear us
Until they scared for they life and claim to fear us
The list keeps getting longer, and our patience getting shorter
Especially with the media and T.V. reporters
It’s imperative, the narrative, don’t change
And gets comparative and then stays the same
I know jay said he can’t see em coming down his eye
But I be lying to myself if I said I ain’t wanna cry
No more hashtags, no more bodybags
Let my people live in harmony
Can I breathe, let me live
I don't know how much more I can take of this
I remember growing up, as a young black kid
The things my momma told me, and all that she did
She say hands at ten and two, when a cop pulls you over
Try to keep calm son, keep your composure
Speak loud and clear but don’t move too fast
Cause if you make the wrong move, it could be yo last
Make no sudden moves, and try to be respectful
When that guns in they hand, they can get real neglectful
Now that I’m grownup I see it ain’t that simple
And every situation just ain’t that civil
So what’s the game plan, when my face in the pavement
What’s my next move, tell me the rules of engagement
It’s hard to keep calm when the hate so blatant
Hard to stay in the game, when the foul so flagrant
A routine stop, now turned an arraignment
Now my moms can’t sleep and making funeral arrangements
No more hashtags, no more body bags
Let my people live in harmony
