My best friend turned and told me he was dying from disease of the heart
Said no matter how he tried
He was doomed from the start
Woke up each and every morning
Took a hit and started soaring
Drugs were shortening his life
But enhancing his art

But That's the struggle that an artist has to deal with on the regular
Overcome competitors and
Answer all the questioners
And doubters
The constant inner struggle can make you numb
It can make you act a stranger to your own son

It can make you think your vices are comforts
Drugs, Pills or Alcohol
I think of them as all one
But any one of them can damage you beyond belief
Or lay you out, and put you six feet underneath

The ground that we walk upon
Brother you can lean up on my shoulder cause I'm strong and I can guide you with a special song
I wrote these words in hope that Maybe I can teach you
No matter where you lay your head I hope my words will reach you

You're responsible for keeping me straight
You're my brother so I know we relate
And at the end of the day
My best teacher was your every mistake
And all the damage that you left in your wake
But it's been said the straight and narrow road will lead you down the path of despair
It's the road that's paved with dangers that will teach you to care
You were drowning for a while but now you're breathing fresh air
And I know we never talk anymore
But I still think about you daily

And I'm proud to be the person that you made me
Even if you're not around to see who I've become
I'm imperfect but I know you'd show respect for what I've done
And the fact I never once tried to front about the fact that
I'm a sinner just like every other creature in the wild
I've abandoned all my innocence I had as a child
I'm a strong man
But I'm weak because I'm human
I hope if you have any doubts you listen to my music

And rest assured, mistakes were made but they were meant to be

Sometimes I close my eyes at night and thoughts of you will turn to dreams
