Werra

The Werra (German pronunciation: [ˈvɛʁa]), a river in central Germany, is the right-bank headwater of the Weser. Weser is a synonym in an old dialect of German. The Werra has its source near Eisfeld in southern Thuringia. After 293 kilometres (182 mi) the Werra joins the river Fulda in the town of Hann. Münden, forming the Weser. Its valley, the Werratal, has many tributaries and is a relative lull between the Rhön Mountains and the Thuringian Forest. Its attractions include Eiben Forest near Dermbach, an unusual sandstone cave at Walldorf, the deepest lake in Germany formed by subsidence (near Bernshausen), and the "Krayenburg", the ruins of a castle. Its towns and main settlements are Hildburghausen, Meiningen, Bad Salzungen, Tiefenort, Merkers-Kieselbach, … more »

It was down by the river, at springtime's high-tide
When I tried to clear her absent mind
I spoke and I argued with a silver tongue
Unable to stop her from taking the plunge
And the river was flowing down to the stream
And the river was flowing down to the stream
Just like a swan her dress carried her through the waves
Until it was soaked and pulled her down below
And her maidens garland floats down to the stream
And her maidens garland floats down to the stream
Her golden hair was weaving like the green seagrass
Crowned with a silvery whirlpool-crown she passed by
She passed by, she passed and passed and... Passed away
And she kept on floating down to the stream
And the river kept flowing down to the stream
Accompanied by trout and the salmon that headed upstream
She was dancing through ripples 'til the last rays of light
And she was still dancing when she bathed in moonlight
And she kept on dancing bathed in moonlight
In the early morning, at the break of the day
A fisherman saw her with her face so grey
And cheering she waved her milky white hand
And gently she waved her milky white hand
Two days later she arrived at the sea
Her golden hair now greenish with traces of tang
Her eyes have been taken by an eel from her face
Her body is swollen, white turned to blue
And just like the sun she descends into the sea
And just like the sun she sinks into the sea
And just like the sun
Like the sun above
And just like the sun she sinks into the sea
And just like the sun
Like the sun above
And just like the sun she sinks into the sea
