Now that the winter is here 
And everything's changed 
And the days barely start; 
Now that the layers of my clothes 
Are breached by the wind
And that wind troubles my bones
Empty thin branches reach in to the sky 
And a melancholy feeling enters my life
And does not leave

The grey river flows at high tide 
As I walk by the church 
In the park, just before sunset; 
As Boreas sweeps through the streets 
I brace myself constantly 
To the ice driving inwards
I see snow fall at night
See it shine in the morning
Thaw for a while and harden 
By evening in its twilit world

In the fire light, in the fires heat
The shadows hang
In this blue room; 
In these bare, bitter months 
That drag long and slow 
Towards growth
I often consider what changes I'd make 
And whether love could bring heat 
That could last through the razor sharp cold 
Love like hot coals

Could she raise my eyes up from the ground
Raise my eyes up from the ground
And hold me through these winter nights?
