Sometimes I wish 
I could take away all the hurt in the world
I often feel like a passive observer
Like things just tend to happen to me 
And those around me 
And it all keeps moving
No matter how hard I try to stop 
The well-oiled gears of life
They must perpetuate
That's all that's ever known to be true

It's like trying to understand 
How to breathe life back into a house 
That has experienced loss 
With echoes that didn't exist before 
And flannel shirts that hang as reminders 
And imaginary flickering, red vacancy signs 
Plastered all over the empty walls

I wonder why we can't stop experiencing pain
No matter how many times 
We try to redefine self worth
Or meaning, or love, or happiness
We can't quite elude pain
I just want to take it all away
Be the monsoon 
That rips up the hurt from its foundation
That cradles the ones affected 
And tells them it's going to be alright

I want to shake them and tell them 
That life is only a possibility
That the trees are greener after its rained 
And the snow sparkles if you look close enough
I want them to know 
That they don't have to hide from anyone
That their expectations are only inside their own minds
That their bad feelings are real but solvable
That their pain is blaring but beautiful
Life flows, and ebbs, and hurts, and heals
There will be sorrow
But the colors of love gleam with a brilliance
Brighter than you, or I, or anyone else's hurt
When I feel lost in the dark
I take a deep breath, realize what I have
And open my eyes
