I think if I could learn to stop out the noise
I'd be okay
It's like when I feel it coming on
When things get to be too much
I can't seem to stop the train

It's like the brakes came unhinged 
And I'm steamrolling full speed 
Towards a town of delicate ceramics 
And sleeping kittens, and hand-blown ornaments
And innocent bystanders
It's like this other person takes over
I feel like I'm nodding in approval 
As the supervisor who observes from behind the scenes 
And watches this spectacle unfold before them

My world becomes a thousand shades 
Of inflamed crimson red
Blinding, and scorching 
And consuming everything it touches
When I feel it coming on
It's too late 
Because I can't find the place in myself to care
It makes my vision distorted
And ugly, and dark, and endless

I think, if I could learn to stop the noise
Just for a minute
I could reign it back in and tell it it's okay
And put it in a jar on the shelf above my bed 
And keep it safe and contained and small
I could admire it from afar 
As a part of myself that maybe still exists
But isn't shaking hands with everyone it meets

I'd see all the colors once again
Cerulean, and magenta, and jade, and beige 
And peach, and gold, and seafoam, and violet
The waves would settle, the rain would soothe
If I could stop the noise
I think I could be better
