When the wind comes across the water I could stand alone 
When the wind comes across the water I can go back home 
But the wind came across the water, I'm too slow again 
Now I'm sitting beside the water without a single friend  

So now I'll spend another night, cursing the one who gave me life 
And wondering why it's worth the fight to go another day alive

There's a man coming up to the water He looks me in the eye
I have been thirty eight years at the water and he dares to ask me why
I have no one help me to water, there are too many steps to climb 
He turned me away from the water, and he put his hand in mine 

He said get up, take your bed and walk and my legs started shaking and I couldn't talk
Through the tears in my eyes I watched my legs getting stronger 
And I rose for the first time and I shouted aloud and I jumped up high 
And I danced on the steps by the pool where my life had been squandered

When I turned, he was gone, but my legs are sturdy and strong, And I know 
I am healed but not by the water
