I sure as hell put a hit upon my brain
I started a thinking about the state of this world today
And ruminating on the fact that fear is the rule of the day
And I said this is strange although I used a more colorful word
My friend said, this is the new normal where you been I thought you said you heard

Well I was flying my flag from the back deck of my house
While the feds were up front reading my mail and scouting my whereabouts
You see, I told a joke about Al Queda and that joke was rooted in fact
And now I live on a watch list on account of the Patriot Act

So never mind that clicking you hear when you talk to me on the phone
And forget that you feel like someone's there even when you're all alone
And that twinge in your gut isn't strange or something that should make you moan
It just the new normal so don't you go running home

The New Normal just might take it and use it to put you away
