Death Be Not Proud

Sonnet X, also known by its opening words as "Death Be Not Proud", is a fourteen-line poem, or sonnet, by English poet John Donne (1572–1631), one of the leading figures in the metaphysical poets group of seventeenth-century English literature. Written between February and August 1609, it was first published posthumously in 1633. So many long years since our paths in life have crossed
Through thick and thin, we faced it all. Here we are, once again
But so much has changed, it's not quite the same and it's not quite right
Since when did you become so cold?
Our ties have withered away

After all this time, nothing's left. Nothing remains
After all this time, all we had is now dead and gone

So many long years since we've talked face to face
What did I say? What have you done? Where did it all go wrong?
This aftermath has left in me a painful wound inside
What can I say? What can I do? Can it still be salvaged?

Where has it all gone wrong?
What have we now become?
Is there something that can be done?

How did we just go fall apart?
Can't we just go back to the start?

So many long years since our paths in life have crossed
These former ties that used to be, once called immutable
After all this time, they crumbled down and fell to pieces
All we had is now dead and gone
