Tonic Sol-Fa

Tonic sol-fa (or tonic sol-fah) is a pedagogical technique for teaching sight-singing, invented by Sarah Ann Glover (1785–1867) of Norwich, England and popularised by John Curwen, who adapted it from a number of earlier musical systems. It uses a system of musical notation based on movable do solfège, whereby every note is given a name according to its relationship with other notes in the key: the usual staff notation is replaced with anglicized solfège syllables (e.g. do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, ti, do) or their abbreviations (d, r, m, f, s, l, t, d). Tonight I'm headin' down to California
I'm gonna sing my songs and I'm gonna pass the hat
I'm gonna visit all the memories that I find
And retrace every step when you were mine

Oh those southern guitars
Sing to me like a distant melody
Oh those southern guitars
When my friends are gone and I'm on my own
I'm gonna listen for the guitar tone
And find my way back home

I hear your voice in every song that I sing
I listen to the ghosts that haunt my past
Well I thought I saw you from the stage, did I dream it
With the foot lights shining up and I wish that...

Those southern guitar
Would sing to me like a distant melody
Oh those southern guitars
When my friends are gone and I'm on my own
I'm gonna listen for the guitar tone
And find my way back home

I hear that soft voice callin', I do
And with the sweet strains fallin'
I'm once again dancing
With you

Oh those southern guitars
Sing to me like a distant melody
Oh those southern guitars
When my friends are gone and I'm on my own
I'm gonna listen for the guitar tone
And find my way back home

I'm gonna find my way back home
