Went on safari in the closet for my ugly stick
Threw some coffee in the thermos
Put my ball cap on
An' I was on the water trollin' fore the crack of dawn
Weren't no telephones
Weren't no TVs
Just channel marker pointin' to the deep blue sea

Well I hooked myself a monster
I was havin' me a ball
til crashin' up an' out the water jumped my mother in law
She had a mouth like a piranha
A butt as big as China
She was chargin' at the boat an' boys I barely had the time
To assess my situation
Make some sense out of it all
Did I really want that Mother stuffed and hangin' on my wall

It surely ain't no fun
Stuck there sittin' in it
Up the creek without a paddle
And you done bagged out your limit
But the river of doubt
Is some mighty good fishin'
For that one big trout that I keep on missin'
