Well, actually not that long ago
This was when I was in the, in the, in the
When I was in the 12th grade, formal dance, people getting asked
Little late in the game, starting to think I'd been passed up
Thanksgiving break the normal cutoff for this thing
But then I met this girl, in my head I heard cha-ching
A light bulb went off (ding)
Maybe I could go with her
She still needs a date I heard
Cason and AC concur
So they introduced me to her
I met her in the backseat at Sonic
She laughed at all my jokes, and knew when I was being ironic
And from that moment on the love I had for her was chronic
I would snapchat her all night, me and Meredith it was right
At that time, a good joke template was self-timed photographs with a caption
I made a lot of those
And whether or not she saved them, was how I measured satisfaction
We were talking so much
Thanksgiving break came along, we planned to hang out a bunch
Watch high school musical and stuff
And thats my favorite movie series
Would she ask me to the formal dance? We all had our theories
One night, we're hanging, talking about the dance, I'm shaking
Alright, I'm thinking, now we're never heavy breathing
But she let the moment pass her by
The only thing I thought was 'why?'
Ended up asking a horrible guy
It was the same dude who asked me what my sandwich tasted like one time in the 10th grade
He picked it up and took a bite out before I could even respond or react
I wanted her back, had it all planned out, was mapped
Come to find out the only reason she didn't ask me was what?!
Cause she was one of the girls at the dance that would walk down the steps in her dress, like
Getting recognized for something important I guess, and those girls get walked down by their dates
And she didn't want me to be shorter than her wearing high heels, she was stressed
I said "Wow" (when I found out)
"Holy cow" (that is so dumb)
I could feel you lead me on, but she didn't really do me wrong
I mean that was just a personal decision that she made about the type of guy she wanted, and I just didn't happen to meet the criterion but

We looked each other in the face
It's not like I was shorter than her, she just couldn't see the good in Trey

We moved on, kept growing, still just as friends
Still talking every night I didn't want it to end
Texting, "goodnight", "goodmorning", thinking I could be her short king. Talking every single day should've come with a warning
She made me feel so important
All of this attention that I did nothing to warrant

I took the long walk to see her, down the science hallway
Seriously a long walk
Didn't need to go that way at all

Time goes on I start to think about the way she makes me feel
Maybe I should ask her out, Cason says, "Yeah might as well"
So I ask her to hang out one night, and we go to sonic
We get there and her friend is with her, she hops in the back
Tells me a crazy story about her other friend, that
Was asked by her boyfriend to marry her over text (that's wild)
What's next
We laughed some more (she smiled)
She explained to me how she wouldn't even say yes to a guy asking her out of her text, and I just nervous laughed (hehe)
Cause that was the exact reason I had asked her to meet up with me, me
And I almost got cold feet
But then her friend got out the back seat (oh. okay. its time. lets do this.)
My heart was beating, pounding out my chest
Told her I had one request
Let me take you out, she looked into my eyes and she said
She'd think about it (huh? what?)
Yeah we'll talk about it, and then she got out the car (oh my gosh)
So I'm sitting in the parking spot, the same one where I met her
How poetic, sitting thinking theoretically
She would've said yes if she wanted me
Her and I, I wanted we, I'd give her the whole world for free. Adventure there's so much to see
Someone else there has to be, cause there cannot be anything inherently that's wrong with me
