I got out of work this evening,, Had to wet my whistle
Those mean old blues had hit me like a Soviet Cruise missile
I was feeling so low, I was wishing I was dead
I needed to get out and have a drink to clear my head
But where I should I go, 'cause one bar will not do
Because the way you left me baby, it's giving me those twelve bar blues

First was the speakeasy and then Cantab lounge
Then to the oxford ale house, troubles was all I found
Down the avenue to Father's with plenty of seating
It's the best place in town for a beer and a beating
So on to Charlies Kitchen, for a burger and a brew
But your memory sat right next to me just giving me those twelve bar blues

I had a shot at The Channel, but the band was way too loud
Narcissus and Cashe had that god damn disco crowd
Great Scott and Gladstone's music was not  to my taste
So I went over to Bunratty's to hear Jon Butcher play
But every song he played reminded me of you
how you broke up our happy home and left me with these twelve bar blues

Just last night you told me we were through
Your mind was all made up, there was nothing I could do

You dumped me for a woman  and left me with the Twelve bar blues

Now my wallet is empty and my head's in pain
My heart still shattered, just like yesterday
Another wasted evening trying to drown my sorrow
Hitting every joint in town like there was no tomorrow
But I should have known better and that's it's just no use
Than to try to wash away the hurt and drink away these twelve bar blues.
