Robert Burns

Robert Burns (25 January 1759 – 21 July 1796), also known familiarly as Rabbie Burns, was a Scottish poet and lyricist. He is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland and is celebrated worldwide. He is the best known of the poets who have written in the Scots language, although much of his writing is in a "light Scots dialect" of English, accessible to an audience beyond Scotland. He also wrote in standard English, and in these writings his political or civil commentary is often at its bluntest. In Glasgow's heart under April's rain
The legend Boaby Burns began his fame
From Springburn streets to Easterhouse lanes
St Mungo's halls echoed with future gains
A tiler's hands crafting dreams so swell
You were bigger than Glasgow so you moved to Hanwell

Boaby Burns through the years you've grown
From Glasgow's mist to London's smoke
A life on tracks of the underground
A story of strength and endless drinking

As a teenager to London he fled
With Moira's heart a new life they led
You celebrated your twenty-first with style
Nine months later welcomed a son with a smile
You started running in a park called Syon
Though when you stopped drinking they closed The Red Lion

Boaby Burns through the years you've grown
From Glasgow's mist to London's smoke
A life on tracks of the underground
A story of strength and endless drinking drinking drinking

Marathons were ran and skies were dived
With Christine's hand life's tapestry thrived
To Australia and Canada's lands
Your son's journey's with a father's hands
Your grand daughters came and said hello
Who'd have thought it would be your roof they live below

Boaby Burns through the years you've grown
From Glasgow's mist to London's smoke
A life on tracks of the underground
A story of strength and endless drinking

Drinking
Drinking
Drinking

We've heard you sing and play guitar
In tune is over rated pa pa
You retired from working for life's desires
To explore the world on my frequent flyer
A Scotsman's fire in his heart it stays
He loves you lots just hush when Celtic play, you know

Through laughter and through tears
in stories told through years and years
I couldn't ask for a better role model
Happy Birthday Dad Let's hit the bottle

Boaby Burns through the years you've grown
From Glasgow's mist to London's smoke
A life on tracks of the underground
A story of strength and endless
