Neighbor's Christmas Lights
Mary Haller
Reindeer keep me up all night, flashing on and off in double time
Jingle Bells turned up too high, pounding in my brain
Santa wears a frightened stare, trapped inside a globe of air
Streaming cars reflect the glare right through my window shades
I don't mind a little Deck the Halls, I swear
But it's like I'm livin' in Times Square
Must be a million of them shiny LED's
Coverin' the house and yard and every single tree
At this time of year, I should be full of cheer
But it's way too merry and bright
And I blame it all on my neighbor's Christmas lights
Camels grazing on his lawn, those candy canes are nine feet tall
Now I think I've seen it all and it don't look right
People come from 'cross the nation, dying of anticipation
Even from the international space station, it's quite a sight
I ain't no Scrooge, got a wreath on my door
But who needs little green elves dancin' on their porch
Must be a million of them shiny LED's
Coverin' the house and yard and every single tree
At this time of year, I should be full of cheer
But it's way too merry and bright
And I blame it all on my neighbor's Christmas lights
Soon the reindeer will hibernate, Santa's elves get boxed away
When they're dark it's kinda hard to hate those crazy Christmas lights
Can't believe I'm saying this, but now that they're gone
I kinda miss the smiles of the little kids seein' it for the very first time
So maybe next year I'll show 'em how to do Christmas right
I'll have my own display to sing and shine all night
I'll have two million of them shiny LED's
Real live reindeer and a life-size Nativity
Put on the biggest show for all the world to see
Yeah at this time next year I'll be so full of cheer
Santa Claus'll spot us from a thousand miles up in the sky
And you can blame it all on my neighbor's Christmas lights
My neighbor's Christmas lights
