Waking up on this glorious morning
Everybody wonders why I'm not going
To a place where I can waste my day
To beg and kneel and pray
I don't want to
I don't feel it
What's the point if I just have to fake it
I could do that on any given day
So why would I live that way
Close your eyes and lower your head
Say a prayer then raise up your hand
Stand on up, make your way to the front
If you feel like your words actually matter enough
All you think and all that you do
Is all forgiven according to you
Punishment and pain are left in the dust
But the hellfire is left for the rest of us
I know how the story goes
I was in it twenty-four years
But now that I'm out I feel like everybody else has disappeared
You only call on me when you need a helping hand
So much for community
You abandoned me for your Promised Land
Just tilt it back, throw it down the hatch
The grapes of wrath become wine at last
Partake, pretend, do all that you can
Cross it off, then just do it all again
Never learn you reap what you sow
