Yo, yo
Grassroots
We must start off back at the grassroots
Running before I could just walk and being way too
Hasty tryna fit with my small feet in my bro's shoes
But life is like a shoe that keeps that keeps growing and never fits you
Some get stuck back at the grassroots
Cuz arrogance could never pave the way to
Brighter days and better pays, man all of this old news
But I'm tryna find my way out myself, I'm sure you are too
Separate the greats from the good
Tryna find my place up top but feeling like I'm no good
Writing bar after bar till they could take out the hood
But who am I to think that I ever could?
DOCTOR JAY never could
Make me shiver like he said he would, uh
Make me cry or make me quake in my boots, na
But nonetheless we keep going
Grassroots ain't for me, I know I'm worthy lemme show it
Apologies for the weird analogy
(For the weird analogy)
But this is just a story about me
Dreaming bigger and bigger until I just can't breathe
Chasing goal after goal and there's no referee
Caught between the soul and the funk
The hip hop and all the ways that we can show love
There's just too much to explain
And it all baffles my brain
I speak on things that happen to everyone of us
I think of different styles that I can emulate
Maybe JB, or Jay Z or possibly just me
Just concentrate
Try to find my own voice and all that uni talk
Be remarkable, have them amazed at how I make them bored
You see the cycle I trail?
These doubts got me believing that I just might fail, uh
And nonetheless we keep on going
Grassroots ain't for me, I know I'm worthy lemme show it
But I won't forget what the grassroots teach
How you've gotta earn the right to ever dine with the kings
Find a way to cut that grass and then the world can see
You're something special and you're more than simply clout hungry
And so I look back on the journey so far
And the scars on my heart
And the story they tell of how a boy learned to laugh
Because this life can beautiful if I just work hard
Cherish the roots but after that we chase the brightest of stars
Take it back
No we never relax
Gotta show all the doubters that we better then that
Start to think that maybe all of this is to rest my soul
And show certain man that I meant what I said way back
I'll change the world with or without you and for me that's fact
The roots go deeper and never liked that
But nonetheless we keep on going
Grassroots ain't for me, I know I'm
Yo, yo
And I can't wait for that glorious day
When I step out on the stage and they all scream my name
Thousands and thousands and thousands screaming DOCTOR JAY
But if I'm honest man I'm not really after the fame
See as a doctor I'm just here to help
I've seen good people hurting
I said good people hurting like we're stuck in hell
And never understanding how to ever help
But best believe that I would soon find a way and dedicate myself
Cuz maybe I can help just like a doctor
Making music and my lyrics as space for you to prosper
Showing people that we all suffer
And maybe showing them that they're not alone can lighten the load on each other, yo
So I'll tell you a little story about a brother, uh
Who was never gonna rest till you recovered, uh
And Nonetheless we keep on the keep on going
Grassroots ain't for me, I know I'm worthy lemme show it yeah
Uh, yo, I know I'm worthy let me show it yeah
Uh, yeah, I know I'm worthy let me show it yeah
Uh, mmm, I know I'm worthy let me show it yeah
And Nonetheless we keep on the keep on going,
Grassroots ain't for me, I know I'm worthy no you know it
