I'm really not a working man I'm mostly fancy free
And I'm not a worry man just try to let things be
There's not a lot I'm wanting just open space and time
And if I don't get what I want well...that's OK just fine!

Now when I was a little kid they called me Turtle Joe
Cause everywhere that we would meet I was the last to show
Always two steps backwards always last to cross the line
But none of that bothered me cause my best friend was time!

Now I've been to the mountains and yes I've seen the sea
And love that blue sky overhead it sets my soul at ease
Its those fields of endless flowers and those distant dark tall trees
That hint of magic secrets that are always calling me!

I really don't judge others people do what people do
And if they had their druthers they'd all be like me too!
Yet someone has to do the work has to make things go
So I let others take the lead and let them run the show.

Now some folks just don't like me don't like the way I am
Think that I'm just faking it sneaking by with old flimflam
They say my head is in the clouds that I'm just a dreamer man
They just don't see how one gets by on just catch-as-catch-can!

Now I can say I made it friend with some old good know-how
Did it always the honest way learned it all somehow
Am proud to say I always said just what was on my mind
And right to say that what I got I earned and its all mine!

There's not much more I can say cause I'm heading right on out
To the mountains and the sea that's what I'm all about
And yes I still am "Turtle Joe" and still good friends with time
And it don't bother me at all if I am last in line!
