In the beginning the birds came to visit, While foxes roamed the streets below
Looking in our windows while we worked And as we slept
The world went quiet when it all began
Not a single car drove by, not even in the Distance

A quiet fell down upon us, never before Heard by any of us

And in the early mornings I'd creep quietly up the stairs

And back then, well, I was up with the birds

And as weeks rolled by, the canals cleared up in Copenhagen, Amsterdam, St. Petersburg and Venice
And reports came in that the dolphins had Returned

The turtles came to lay their eggs again, for The first time in at least a hundred years

And the months rolled by, you know
Children drew happy rainbows and stuck Them in their windows
While words like hope and empathy and Social distancing became the new lingua Currency
And masks littered the streets in the Millions, and blew around in the wind

We didn't stand a chance
And we all looked fearfully from our rooms Across the street at each other
How long will this go on
And our numbers thinned by the day, Haunted by the deathly crown stalker

And the world forgot about us as nature Licked her wounds
Well, that's when the drones came
Peering in our windows under moonlight, We were out of sight and that was not Alright
Not by those used to being in the know

See, they couldn't see us anymore
Locked up inside our own homes, inside our Own heads
We could be plotting, scheming
But you know, probably we were just Baking, fucking, shopping and screaming

And the years rolled by as we awaited our Return to normal
While the ivy grew up the stovepipe and the Tiles fell from the roof in the rain
And grass and moss took over the streets
And the climate sped up its change

We never did get to say goodbye to those Who weren't with us
There were only handfuls of us left in the End
Little pockets of the immune
